Okay I admit it...

I did in fact pull on my wedding dress yesterday. The dancing around the house portion of yesterday's post is still just a maybe.

It all started when I decided to organize and clean up my closet. I decided to change around where some things were hanging and of course this brought the huge white dress bag hidden in the corner to my attention. My original intention was to just peak into the bag and make sure that everything was still doing okay in there.

After laying the dress in its bag on the bed and opening it up I of course proceeded to put on the veil, just to make sure it was still in okay shape of course. My plan was to just go ahead and put the whole thing back in the closet, but before I new what I was doing I was pulling the puffy sparkly white thing on.

I was instantly reminded of why I picked this dress for my wedding day. Even wearing it yesterday with my messy hair and no makeup made me feel beautiful. Is it not amazing that a dress can make me feel so beautiful and glamorous and perfect?

Luke and I had been together for almost 2 years when we decided to get married. The story of deciding to get married is not a great story but I will say it had nothing to do with being pregnant or needed a green card.

So we decided to get married and set a date for about 7 weeks out and Luke officially proposed a week later. Yes, I said 7 weeks. No, I never thought that my engagement would be that short. Either way by the time Luke had proposed we had already put a deposit on the ceremony location, decided where we would be having the reception, notified our wedding party that they were going to be in a wedding and I had picked out my dress.

My dress did not technically fit in with the rest of my wedding, which for the most part was a pretty informal and relaxed event. We had the rehearsal dinner at my in-laws house, got married in a park, invited our siblings to be groomsmen and bridesmaid/man (haha), had our reception in my parents backyard, fed our guests a big pasta buffet and had a friend take all of our pictures.

Even though we planned our wedding on a budget I couldn't help myself when it came to my dress. I spent more on that then it cost to clothe the rest of the wedding party combined... and then some.

I have felt some guilt since then about spending so much money on a dress that I wore for one day of my life but wearing it yesterday reminded me that no matter how much I spent on that dress I love it. And although if I were to do it over again I might make a different and less extravagant choice that dress was a part of one of the most important days of my life and I cherish the memories that go along with it.

I still debate about what I should do with my dress, save it, sell it, alter it and wear it for a vow renewal? It is hard to think about letting it go since it does partially represent such an important and emotion filled day in my life.

Here is my question where is your wedding dress and what are plans for it? have you come up with a way to use it again or keep it around without it sitting in a bag or box in your closet?

BEAUTIFUL! Mine was very princess like and I had a pretty casual wedding-but I still wanted to feel like a million bucks

MINE is sitting in a box in Isabella's closet..it has been preserved or whatever it's called and I can't take it out.

My sister SAYS she'll wear it one day-but who knows!

oh and my veil is in a box frame along with my dried flowers and the front page from the next day of our states newspaper because YES..we were on the FRONT page-dead center! :)

I have thought about keeping it for Monkey but really who knows what is going to be "in" 20 years from now and it is really not my sisters style.

I laughed out loud when I read your previous post because my daughter and I spent an hour last night trying on dresses from our closets. I was THIS close to dragging my wedding dress out too, but I didn't think my husband would appreciate yet another dress when it was already way past bedtime. Julia's eyes lit up when she saw that we had matching black dresses on at one point.

I danced with my almost 5 year old in a velvet number from a couple of years ago and then my husband cut in for his turn. It was a special moment for our whole family even though we weren't really doing anything. We were together - remembering the events that we originally purchased each outfit for.

As for what I'll do with my dress...I'll probably keep it in my closet and let my daughter try it on every once in a while. Who knows if she'll want to wear it or not - she's only 2. :)

Now I am interested in your wedding story, and excuse me but my wedding was for a green card LOL, But I did fully intend to marry and live with the love of my life LOL. We had a small informal wedding to in a little cottage on the lake and I still chose the dress I wanted.

Like I said yesterday my dress is in Australia with mum and dad, I think about selling it seeing as I have a boy and its very likely he will be an only child. Although maybe his wife will want to wear it someday?? Who knows

Your dress is beautiful. Your proposal and wedding experiences sound pretty close to mine. We had most of our deposits made before the ring had been deposited on my finger. I had a big beautiful princess dress (discontinued and super discounted from $900 to $100), pasta buffet and friend taken pictures.

My dress is hanging in a bag in the basement. I have no high hopes of my daughter wanting to wear it down the aisle since I was in no way, shape or form wearing my mothers oldie and goodie so my mother in law will be sewing her a baptism dress from the material. It's a way for me to pass it down to her while it's still in good shape instead of yellow and falling apart.

Kleinefamily- that sounds like a really sweet idea!

I agree sweet idea!

My dress is sitting in the back of Wyn's closet not preserved yet. Yikes! My sister is using my veil so after her wedding I plan on having my dress and veil cleaned and perserved.

I love my dress so much too. I think I will just keep it. I did get my dress for around $600 which was 20% off and a steal of a deal.

The coolest part I have done with part of my dress is actually the matching shawl that came with it. Hubby's aunt made the ring bearer pillow and a bible cover out of the material from my shawl so it is like I have part of my dress close all the time. Very special! I think you saw it at my shower.

We also had a an outdoor wedding, casual setting, but I had a knockout of a dress! I am also struggling with what to do with mine!!

Oh - you make me want to rip mine out of the box and have a twirl too!!

I "heirloomed" mine - sealed in a box, never to be seen again. It actually feels very light - Hubs and I joke that it's empty. Now that I have two sons/and done, I might have to bust it out. After 13 years, I wonder if it would still fit.

(yours is absolutely gorgeous - well worth the splurge)

Oh, your dress looks beautiful! I actually had mine on last week dancing around the house LOL. I'm cleaning out my closet too. I decided to save the veil and tiara in case my daughter ever wants to wear something of mine but realistically I know she will not wear my dress (even though it is fabulous!!) I'm actually going to list it on kijiji, craigslist and also look into some online used wedding dress sellers.
I cried when I first made the decision but am happy with my choice now :)
