A while back Madeline and I set about to make a magical weekend breakfast together. Somehow Delaney decided to take a morning nap making cooking with my big girl a zillion times easier. Madeline and I looked through our pantry, freezers and refrigerator and decided on an oven pancake with blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. We played around. Mixing and measuring, pouring and laughing together. It was perfect. I love cooking with Madeline. I’m sure I’ll love cooking with Delaney too. There is something magical about cooking with your children. When our baked pancake emerged from

There is something about fall. I just can’t help but love it. The cooler weather. The changing colors. The boots and scarves. The family traditions. And the flavors, let’s not forget the flavors. I love pumpkin and pear and greens. I love squash and sweet potato and warming spices like cinnamon and cloves. Really who doesn’t. Fall and all it’s deliciousness just puts me in the mood to cook. I also love my big cast iron skillet. What do you get when I marry my love of fall veggies plus love of cooking with my

Each week as I write the grocery list I ask Luke and Maddy if there is anything they think we need from the store. Each week one of them tells me to buy bananas, the other tells me to get flossers – even though she has a stockpile to clean her teeth with. The problem with the weekly request for bananas is the almost weekly neglect of those same bananas. News flash! Bananas don’t last forever folks! Maybe Luke’s secret plan is to have a never ending supply of bananas in the freezer for banana

In the not so distant future Maddy is slated to start Kindergarten. This means there are some big changes on our horizons. On top of having a newborn. School starts at 7:55 am which means Luke and Maddy will have to get out the door much earlier than they are used to. I’m already gearing up for the struggle. We all know we will need to get out of bed earlier. Honestly though, baby girl will probably help us out with that. As I watch the clock in the morning it is evident we need

A few weeks back I gave you my recipe for whole wheat tortillas and mentioned that I had a Huevos Rancheros recipe to share too. Well today is the day. Poblano peppers may be my favorite pepper to cook with right now. They have so much flavor and they smell so good roasting in the oven. They do not

I shared this recipe a little over a year ago and it is still an Evolving Mommy household favorite. We’ve even served this to friends for brunch and it was hit. So why am I sharing it again? 1. Because it’s yummy. 2. Also because after making peanut butter oatmeal for my peanut butter loving daughter this morning I have a craving for some peanut butter pancake delightfulness. 3. Lastly because I think you should know about this breakfast treat. If your children are anything like Maddy they probably ask for peanut butter and jelly

One night while in New York City Luke decided to be proactive about locating the next days breakfast. We have a habit of saying things like “We’ll just head to (file in the name of a particular area here) and see what we find,” or “I’m sure there are tons of restaurants all over that neighborhood/area/city, We’ll probably have more choices than we know what to do with.” I love the way we travel together. I really, really do. We come up with a few things we really want to do while we are visiting
